Call her futurist, rayonist or avant-gardian, Natalia Goncharova was an all around awesome lady. Working with (and never under, I suppose!) Serge Diaghilev she created some of the most enthralling set designs for the Ballet Russes at the beginning of last century. Her sense of color, detail and her curiosity towards folk elements are totally in line with fleeting inspirations in my head and even now, almost a century later, her work has an odd sensibility that feels contemporary.
